9th week AI results

Bang your heads and do your stupid "rock fingers"...it's Rock week! Possibly due to all the racket, Ryan noted one of the large American Idol signs above the stage was on the verge of collapse, putting a damper on the pre-show rehersal. I wonder how much of that is to blame for the contestants less than stellar performances?

With Slash (former lead guitarist for Guns 'n Roses, kids) as mentor du jour, he and his nest of hair gave solid advice to the contestants.

Adam started things off in his leather and lace with "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zepplin. I felt it was a good choice for him, and the judges all agreed. Kara once again drooled all over herself and her biker-chick outfit, mopping it up with her hair extensions.

Allison was more excited about getting her hair done my Adams' "Hair Girl" than being in the Top 4, but was convinced to go ahead and sing "Cry Baby" by Janis Joplin anyway. She was a good "sound alike" to the original, but was it good enough? She's missing something, I just can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's "life experience"???

New to Idol this year...duets! How cozy to have Danny and Kris sing "Renegade" by Styx together. It was a big odd, I thought. Like being back to Hollywood Week and having to work with a group. Maybe it was a tactic to stretch the show out a full hour? But they were complimented on their harmonies.

Kris sang "Come Together" by the Beatles, along with his trusty guitar. Simon said it was "like eating ice for lunch". Just "Imagine" that.

Danny's solo performance was "Dream On" by Aerosmith. Danny, "Dream On" that you could really nail that last high note...UGH! The audience ran shrieking from the auditorium, blood shooting from their ears! OK, a slight exageration...I was the only one that happened to. Danny admitted that after he watched it back, he laughed about it all night! Simon agreed, saying it was like a scream in a horror movie. Kara told him she thought he "took it too far".

The night ended with a duet by Allison and Adam, a sultry performance of "Slow Ride" by Foghat. They were commended on their performance together and even encouraged to record together! Now will someone please tell me why there was an entire Kindergarten class in the audience?

My other question to you all is...."Did you vote?" I did...can you guess for whom?

Tonight's time-fillers - the Idols performing "School's Out" with Cousin It (Slash) on guitar, No Doubt, Daughtry and even Paula, strutting her middle-aged stuff. One Poolie wondered out loud via text how much Simon enjoyed that little show! Hey, I give her props...the song was good, and she still has some Laker Girl moves!

No Doubt performed "Just A Girl", with Gwen in a wife-beater and hair all tied in knots. But did you catch the drummer with his stripped tights and tutu??? WOW!

Daughtry performed the first single off their new album, "It's No Surprise", and it was good to see him come full circle, back to where he was shamelessly booted off in the #4 spot 3 years ago. WHO will be the #4 spot this year and will they have equal success?

We will have to see if Allison can do it, she's the latest fatality of America's vote. Now it's an all-guy Finale!

Our leader for so many weeks I've lost count, STILL with just 18 points, is Chris W! Now watch closely, folks...Chris ranked Kris at #13, so he WILL be racking up some big-time points here in a minute! But will it be enough for someone else to take over the top spot?

FAR behind, with 25 points and standing alone in 2nd place is Jamey W! Jamey, don't forget you have to help me out with that little task I asked you about!

In 3rd place by herself, with 26 points, is Jamie J! Great job, girl!

In 4th place with 27 points, we have the husband/wife team of John R and Penney R, and Joel J.

In 5th place with 28 points, we've got Nancy L, Kelley E, Lynn W, and Chas. You're all still in the running for some cash, guys!

With 29 points and having "No Doubt" that they can forge ahead, are Rich H, Becky S, and Tina H.

With 30 points and craving ice for lunch are Kelly O, Kerry V, Jeff V, Stephanie P, Tim M, and ME. Tim took a particularly huge hit this week, having ranked Allison at #13! Ouch!

With 32 points and "Just A Girl", we have Heidi M.
With 33 points and leather and lace are Beth H, Pam F, Rich E, and Phaedra M.
With 34 points, singing "Come Together", are Noreen, Katie E, and Mike M.
With 35 points, going for a "Slow Ride", are Angela M, Anne B, Donna H, and Rachel B.
With 37 points and singing a duet are Connie G and Hollie K.
With 38 points and wishing they could hire Adam's "Hair Girl" are Kristy S and Karen H.
With 39 points and feeling like a "Renegade" is Kristie S.
With 40 points and standing with the Kindergarten class are Kyle S, Terri V, and Tony S.
With 42 points and hoping the ceiling doesn't fall on him is Brad K.
With 44 points and doing MUCH better in his "Survivor" pool is Russ B.
With 45 points and thrilled to be buying her first house is Heather B. CONGRATS!!!
With 47 points, chasing beads all around her apartment, is Kathryn B.
With 48 points and wishing they could have been in the audience are Angela W & Patty W.
With 49 points and wishing they hadn't entered this pool are Amy A and Amy M.
With 50 points and offended that they are a "has-been" team are John & Lyndi.
With 51 points and wondering if I'm always this mean is Deanna S.
And lastly, with 52 points and wishing she could hide in Slash's hair, is Jen W!!!

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 20 for the Idol Finale party at my house! We cook out, play "Idol Trivia" for prizes, watch the finale, and have a great time. More info to come on that.

Until then, this is Norma...OUT!
