Good evening, Poolies! We're down to the Fabulous Five! This week being standards of the Rat Pack, I had serious concerns. "Will the contestants do well?", "Who will the mentor be?", "Will I watch without getting ill?" I was pleasantly surprised on all counts. Like you, when I think of the Rat Pack, my thoughts automatically turn to Jamie Foxx. I must say that I had to wait for the explanation of why he was chosen as Mentor, and I guess his roles in Dream Girls and Ray qualified him more than say, Soulja Boy. Jamie took an up close and personal approach with the contestants, at times getting "up in they grill". The mouth wash must have been at the ready, I didn't see Jamie flinch or his eyebrows get singed.
Kris sang a controlled version of "The Way You Look Tonight", and Jamie said he felt that when we heard it, we would be blown away and not even know it. That's right, I didn't know it. He was good, but not a favorite by any means. Kara commented on his diction, but I don't know how she could judge that based on his singing. Maybe I'm getting the word mixed up...
Allison amazed all with "Someone To Watch Over Me", confiding that she's too young to date. Are we convinced that she's not really a 35-year old chain smoker? Not me! Simon, unconvinced of Allison's conviction to win this thing, deemed her in trouble. You know, the girl and SANG. But she really needs to focus on singing and not talking. She reminds me of Tatiana when she gets on a roll. Oh Please!!!
Matt hurt my ears with "My Funny Valentine". He should have sung "My Funny Bump on my Forehead". Oh wait, he wore the hat again. Never mind, out of sight out of mind. Pitchy points and all, Simon loved it! He and Paula were probably tussling during the whole song; that's the only reason I can fathom.
Danny, oh Danny Boy...did you ever shine tonight!!! Dedicated Poolies know that I have a soft spot for Adam, but Danny was my favorite last night with his most soulful version of "Come Rain or Come Shine". He was smokin', he had swagger, and as Paula said, he has the finish line in his sights. Well done, Danny!
Adam won for "Best Entrance", traipsing down the red lite staircase like Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind. He looked immaculate in his white satin suit and black shirt. Oh yeah, he sang too! He did a great job with "Feeling Good", and certainly left Kara feeling good...she got all tongue-tied and twisted in her thoughts of his performance. She used the words "confusing...shocking...sleazy...", then her head exploded. Randy-Dawg felt the need to point out how theatrical Adam is (DUH), to which Simon swung back "That's like complaining that a cow Moo's!" Well said, Simon! Shoot, we all know that Adam was born backstage during a performance of "Hairspray".
Natalie Cole performed and looked amazing...does she age at all? And Taylor Hicks showed off his svelt new self and same awkward dance moves. Jamie Foxx performed his current hit "Blame It", which was surprisingly similar to a Kanye West performance. It was just a'ight for me, Dawg.
For some reason, maybe infected with the Swine Flu, America voted Adam into the Bottom 3 this week! Kara's mouth (and most of ours, I'm sure), were left agape when Adam was shoved to the opposite group than the one he thought he belonged in (safe with Danny and Allison). Then, to make matters worse, when Ryan sent one of them to safety, it was Kris! My phone was blowing up with text messages from outraged Poolies, swearing to never watch again if Adam goes tonight!
One particularly dedicated Poolie brings a good point...people think that Adam is safe for sure, so they vote for their next favorite. Sound familiar, Chris Daughtry? Vote for your favorites, Poolies!!!
Justice was served, and Matt & his Little Friend were sent home. Here are the new point totals:
STILL in 1st place and reading my weekly recaps, with 18 points, is Chris W! I'm amazed! Are you already plotting how to spend that prize money???

And, this is amazing...all with 45 points but holding their heads up high "Come Rain or Come Shine", are Amy A, Jen W, Deanna S, Kathryn B, and the has-been team of John/Lyndi! Oh the shame of it all!
With the finale just around the corner, I want to remind returning Poolies and inform new Poolies that I will have my annual American Idol Finale Party at my house...just as soon as I figure out what date it is! I THINK it's Wednesday the 20th, but will send out an official invite once the date is known. Meanwhile, we have Rock 'N Roll night to look forward to next week! Until then, this is Norma....OUT!
