Good Evening Poolies, big and small! The final performances were interesting, with each contestant singing a favorite, a song chosen by Simon Fuller (creator of Idol), and, uh, here's where it gets sketchy, a song co-written by Judge Kara as the winner's song..
After a coin flip, it was decided that Adam would sing first, pulling out my favorite "Mad World", dressed in long black trench coat walking in a London fog. Amazing as it was, I still liked the first time he sang it better. Kris followed with "Ain't No Sunshine", and played along on the piano. It was a solid performance and I have to admit I liked it!
Simon Fuller's song for Adam was "Change Is Gonna Come", and Kris' song was "What's Going On". I liked the 1st songs better.
No to this song that Kara wrote. What the heck?! It's called "No Boundaries", and in this Poolmaster's opinion, C R A P! Besides it being a sappy song, it suited NEITHER contestant it was intended for! Adam didn't do well with it at all, and it was too high for Kris so he was all off-key. Good job, Kara.
Fast forward to tonight's grand finale! America apparently had nothing better to do last night than vote, as just under one million votes were cast! (I managed to get 2 votes in...guess for WHOM!)
Tonight was a night to remember! A walk down memory lane that did not disappoint!
Awards were bestowed (Outstanding Male went to Norman Gentle, Outstanding Female to Tatiana Del Toro). But to me, the best award and highlight of the whole show was the award for Best Attitude, going to Bikini Girl! She came out wearing guess what...a bikini! After accepting her award, Ryan declared that she hadn't been given a fair shot at singing her song, and allowed her to take the stage yet again to sing "Vision of Love". She was just several warped notes into it when she heard someone singing behind her...Judge Kara! Clearly out-singing her, pitch perfect, with Bikini Girl standing there looking highly ticked. As the end of the song neared and the big final note comes, BG tried so hard to hit the note that she didn't notice Kara ripping her dress open to reveal a tiny black bikini! Poor BK, upstaged again. She slunk off, leaving a streak of spray tan on the stage.
The many guest appearances were to be applauded...Queen Latifah, Jason Mraz, Keith Urban, Fergie with her Black Eyed Peas, Cyndi Lauper, Lionel Ritchie, Kiss, Carlos Santana, Steve Martin, and they even dug up Rod Stewart!
A Kris & Adam duet of "We Are The Champions" sealed the night, leaving only the vote left. On pins and needles, and hoping we set our DVR's to record long enough, it was finally revealed that the winner of 2009 American Idol was Kris Allen!
After I peeled myself off the floor and dried my eyes, Kris sang that dreadful song (No Boundaries) again, but it seems they lowered it a few notches so it fit his voice. I must say, WELL DONE, KRIS!
But now to the real business at hand...our results! With Kris being the dark horse that he was, only TWO Poolies picked him to win it...good job Beth H and Tim M! You saw something in him that NONE of the rest of us saw so early on! In fact, Kris staying in the competition is what did most of us in with points, and shook up our leader board! Because most of us didn't see talent in Kris, we have an all-time high for points this year! I'm shocked! How could we have been so wrong, Poolies???
So check it out...for me for you for me for you for me for you dawg, sweetie...
Our leader for umpteen weeks in a row now has to share his top prize! With a VERY impressive score of just 32 points, are Chris W and Tim M! Tim was able to move up several spots due to his high ranking of Kris! Very strategic, Tim! So they will be splitting the $100 grand prize, $50 each. Well done, Gentlemen!!! You have my respect!
Taking the 2nd place prize all for herself, with 34 points, is Stephanie P! The $50 is yours!
We have a 4-way tie for the 3rd place prize of $45, so Beth H, Jeff V, Joel J and Chas will each get $11.25 for their scores of 36 points. Hey, you still came out ahead!
The 4th place prize belongs to Penney R for her slim 37 points! That's $30 you didn't have a minute ago!
And 5th place prize of $25 is split between Jamie J and Jamey W for their respectable 38 points. Great job guys, you each get $12.50!
The rest of the board gets really ugly now...hang onto your hats!

I'm sorry I had to cancel my Finale Party, but I'd just gotten some bad news about my dad's health and my heart wasn't into having a party. I hope you all understand.
Thank you all very much for your participation, and your support regarding my recaps; you seem to enjoy them at least as much as I do! Let's do it again next year! Until then, this is Norma...OUT!
